Report

Saturday 14th of April 1979

Cruach Neuran (1992’) (GR NS 083820) and Blairmore Hill (1472’)

Weather: Dry with a south-west to westerly wind. Sunny, becoming sultry and hazy

Report

We all assembled at the scout hall at 10 o’clock in the morning, then moved off to catch the 10.45 (Western ferries). At 11:25, we arrived and gradually unpacked ourselves. The clib was moderately steep through rough pasture and boggy ground in the higher area in a generally southerly direction. The summit was achieved at 12:35. After posing for our photos, and refreshing ourselves with peppermints, we started to descend.

During our descent, we all paused for a drink of water and on our arrival back at Glen Lean farm, we toasted the hill with Coca Cola (not plonk). The words of the toast were;

“Hail to Cruach Neuran,

Hoots to the Hill”

We reached our campsite at about 2 PM. After having our lunch, we all pitched our tents. Three whistles summoned us to Glip’s tent where we were told that we would be climbing they Blairmore hill. Radios etc were collected so that we could listen to the sport of scouts– Football. As soon as we came to a dry patch, we all sat down and watched one Raljex becoming a registered Guide. The recorder takes this moment to remind no one in particular that this does not make you a hill-loving member of the sister Association of Scouts. The remainder of the climb was uneventful except that it was very slow and many pan drops were consumed. At 5:25 PM, we reached the top and shot down the hill to reach the camp by 6 PM, we then made tea and had a campfire and retired to pit by 10 PM.
