Report

Monday 16th July     Homeward Bound and Ben Buie (2354’)

Booboo was not feeling too well today as we struck camp and headed east. He decided to stay in the car while Peasant navigated Glip up Ben Buie on a dull day which was rather chilly on top with a moderate Southwest wind. Apart from going astray from the summit during the descent, Peasant did very well.

We had time to visit Duart Castle, although Booboo spent most of the time in Percy. Peasant and Glip toured the castle which wasn’t too big really. The castle tearoom, manned by Canadian women, was superior with the vast range of home cooking.

After that, Peasant and Booboo took the model railway from Torosay to Craignure,  while Percy and Glip drove round. Ice lollies followed that and then we were on the ferry home. Foolishly, we stopped for tea in Oban. We would have been better driving on since there was a good-looking restaurant several miles further on out of Oban.

The drive back involved Percy only using his brakes twice (and these were for junctions) even along Loch Lomond. Just as well too.

And so ended a superb weekend. Mull was impressive if only for sending us all to sleep - presumably because of the sea air.
